New Album Releases - March
February was a dull month for new album releases, March promises to be more exciting delivering a selection of key releases.
Britney Spears - Femme Fatale (March 28). Following the success of 2008's comeback album Circus, pop singer Britney Spears deliverers its much-awaited follow-up, Femme Fatale, her seventh album. It's already landed the singer a fourth #1 with its lead single "Hold it Against Me." The album features executive producers Max Martin and Dr. Luke, who also worked on Circus and a host of other producing talents such as Bloodshy & Avant, Danja, will.i.am and Stargate.
Avril Lavigne - Goodbye Lullaby (March 6). Max Martin also takes the prominent producer position on Canadian pop/rock singer Avril Lavigne's fourth album Goodbye Lullaby. Martin produces 4 of the 13 tracks, including the albums radio-friendly lead single "What the Hell," which became a 7th top 20 hit for the singer, but didn't quite re-capture the success of "Girlfriend," from 2007's The Best Damn Thing. Other producers on the album include Lavigne herself, Deryck Whibley and Butch Walker.
The Strokes - Angles (March 22). American rock band The Strokes release their fourth album Angles. It's their first release since 2006's First Impressions on Earth, which landed the band their first top 5 hit in the UK with "Heart in a Cage." New single "Under Cover of Darkness" already re-captures that '70s influenced new wave rock that their legendary debut Is This It was vigorously applauded for.
Kanye West & Jay-Z - Watch the Throne. American rapping heavy-weights Kanye West and Jay-Z team up for their first collaborative effort, Watch the Throne, which features foul-mouthed lead single "H.A.M." This is the third time Jay-Z has released a collaborative album with a big American act. He's done it twice before with R&B singer R. Kelly, The Best of Both Worlds and Unfinished Business, and with rock band Linkin Park, Collision Course, which spawned the successful single "Numb/Encore."
Lupe Fiasco - Lasers. This is the American rappers third album and features production from The Neptunes and guest appearances from R&B singers Trey Songz and John Legend and newcomer Skylar Grey. It features new single "Words I Never Said."
R.E.M. - Collapse into Now. I'm kind of surprised there hasn't been more of a fuss made about the forthcoming fifteenth album release from American alternative rock band R.E.M. It's the follow up to 2008's Accelerate which met with critical acclaim, although didn't land any hits.
Elbow - Build a Rocket Boys! This is English indie rock band Eblow's fifth album. It follows the bands critically acclaimed last album The Seldom Seen Kid, which also landed the top 20 hit "Grounds for Divorce." Lead single "Neat Little Rows" is out today.
Noah and the Whale - Last Night on Earth. English indie/folk band's third album. Lead single "L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N." landed the band their second top 40 hit last month.
The Vaccines - What Did You Expect from the Vaccines? British indie rock group The Vaccines, who placed third in the BBCs Sounds of 2011 poll, ready their debut album--and although it wasn't a stellar hit, the album has spawned the bands first top 40 single "Post Break-Up Sex," which I've been enjoying a lot... the song that is.
All Time Low - Dirty Work. American pop/punk band All Time Low ready their fourth full-length album, although the release date is tentative.
Yellowcard - When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes. American rock band Yellowcard's seventh album.
Chris Brown - F.A.M.E. Fourth album.
Jennifer Lopez - Love? Another tentative date. It's been almost 2 years in the waiting but pop singer Jennifer Lopez is finally ready to release her seventh album, Love? which is already looking to land her, her biggest hit in years with "On the Floor." American Idol does wonders, doesn't it?
Jennifer Hudson - I Remember Me. American R&B singer Jennifer Hudson preps her second album, I Remember Me. I wish I was more excited about this, I really did like her self-titled debut. Lead single "Where You At" was released earlier this month.
Whiz Khalifa - Rolling Papers. Debut album from American rapper Whiz Khalifa features 1st chart topper "Black and Yellow."
Panic! At the Disco - Vices & Virtues. American rock band Panic! At the Disco's third album. Features lead single "The Ballad of Mona Lisa."
